Arts and Culture

Theology manifests itself through artistic creativity in a variety of ways. Sacred buildings, music, and the visual arts all provide unique means to understand the impact of Christianity throughout history.

Sarum’s art programme explores the meaning and evolution of art, the ideal complement to our theological formation and educational provision on Christian spirituality and worship.

Current courses in this area are: Religion & Arts in Britain: 1750-1939, a three-term course to expore the linkages between religion and its expression in the arts (Term 1 began 28 September but you can join at any time), and the Sarum Singing break, a musical retreat to be held 16 to 18 February. Art is also a principal theme in a new course in the area of Christian Spirituality, Literature, Art and the Christian Imagination and the Sarum Arts Annual Lecture Series.

Dr Michael DeLashmutt oversees the Arts and Culture programme at Sarum College.

Our purpose in organising such an event is to carefully discern how wisdom can help our churches to interrelate theology, spirituality and Christian practice.
