Many individuals and churches have icons and use them in prayer. This day will explore the composition of key icons, the theological interpretation of them and their use in both public and private worship. There will be a celebration of the Divine Liturgy of the Orthodox Church in the College Chapel at 10.30am for those who wish to attend. The workshop will start after the liturgy at 12.15.
Speaker: Dr Andreas Andreopoulos director of the Centre for Orthodox Studies at the University of Wales Lampeter. He is author of Art as Theology: from the Postmodern to the Medieval (2007) and Metamorphosis: The Transfiguration in Byzantine Theology and Iconography (2005).
