During the summer of 2014, a student on the MA in Christian Spirituality at Sarum College, Tony Palmer, was tragically killed in a road traffic accident.
Tony was passionately interested in Christian Spirituality, particularly Celtic Spirituality. In his memory, we have established a small essay prize in Celtic Spirituality.
Those who knew Tony will remember him as an incredibly dynamic and caring person, deeply passionate about everything he did, but also a very modest man.
His work for Christian reconciliation had garnered quite a bit of media attention, particularly his YouTube interview with Pope Francis (see left). Tony was very excited about this work and the new direction it was taking him and it is a loss to many that his initiative has been cut short by his untimely death. Tony leaves behind his wife and two teenage children and we also miss him very much at Sarum College. A diploma in Christian Spirituality will be awarded to Tony posthumously at the MA Presentation Day on June 6th, 2015.
Dr Louise Nelstrop, the programme leader for the MA in Christian Spirituality, did a sponsored swim last year which raised a net total of £582 for this essay prize.
Thank you to all those who contributed to this award.
