A question of identity: who do we think he thought he was?

  • Date & Time: Tuesday, 21 Feb 2012, 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM

The agenda for a discussion of this question is again rather long – Jesus as prophet, Jesus as Messiah, and Jesus as Son of Man (or ‘son of man’). We consider whether any of these terms hold the clue to interpreting Jesus as rather more than another of the prophets of Israel. The Romans seem to have concluded that he was a political threat; the earliest Christians acclaimed him as ‘Messiah’, but his public activity seemed not to match the Messianic profile. How can we resolve the Jesus puzzle?
