Pastoral Liturgy Programme

The Pastoral Liturgy programme at Sarum College is designed to provide ordained and lay ministers and their congregations opportunities to learn more about different aspects of Christian Worship in order to promote liturgical renewal. Experienced and knowledgeable speakers will help participants gain practical liturgical skills and develop their theological understanding of Christian worship.

Icon Workshop

12 June, 10.30am (or after liturgy at 12.15pm) to 4.30pm

Many individuals and churches have icons and use them in prayer. This day will explore the composition of key icons, the theological interpretation of them and their use in both public and private worship.

There will be a celebration of the Divine Liturgy of the Orthodox Church in the College Chapel at 10.30 am for those who wish to attend. The workshop will start after the liturgy
at 12.15.

Dr Andreas Andreopoulos is Director of the Centre for Orthodox Studies at the University of Wales Lampeter and has written extensively on the interpretation and use of icons, including Art as Theology: from the Postmodern to the Medieval (Equinox Publishing, 2007) and Metamorphosis: The Transfiguration in Byzantine Theology and Iconography (SVS Press, 2005).

Preaching on Matthew in Advent

Tutor: Thomas O’Loughlin

Thomas O’Loughlin is professor of Historical Theology at the University of Nottingham and noted preacher. He has written Liturgical Resources for Luke's Year: Sundays in Ordinary Time in Year C (Columba Press, 2006) and Liturgical Resources For Lent & Eastertide: Year A (Columba Press, 2005).

Wisdom Symposium, 1 to 2 May 2010

Sarum College's international symposium will consider the multifaceted role played by wisdom within Christian thought and practice and reflect on ways in which wisdom can inform the mission of the Christian churches today. Our purpose in organising such an event is to carefully discern how wisdom can help our churches to interrelate theology, spirituality and Christian practice.
