Sarum Puts Palestinian Food on The Menu

Palestinian dinner 2More than 80 people dined on Palestinian specialty dishes on Wednesday, 20 January as part of the "Israel/Palestine - Food and Stories" evening held at Sarum College. The event was organised by Salisbury activitists Barbara Hickman (front row, second from left) and Pat Clegg (front row, far right), who also leads Palestinian pilgramages.

It was the first such meal that Richard Amey, Sarum College catering manager (back row, right) and fellow chef Richard Salter (back row, left) had prepared. Both were delighted with the result and hope to cook for other ethnic theme nights in the future. Make a catering enquiry

The occasion was an opportunity for those concerned with Israel/Palestine to come together to share food and conversation and to hear more from three local people who have recently visited there.

Speakers were Emma Shojeai (front row, middle), a theology student at Winchester University, who visited Bethlehem last summer to work with children in a refugee camp; Derek Sealey (front row, left), a Salisbury Quaker and a recent pilgrim; and Nelly Thelwall, whose daughter is married to an Israeli Arab living in Israel.

"The wonderful spread of Palestinian food, the stories from our three speakers and the support of over 80 people made this a hugely successful evening," says organiser Barbara Hickman.
