Biblical Study Break: The Bible and the Emotions – Faith and Feeling in Early Christianity
- Course Dates: Mon 11 February 2019, 1:00 pm to Thu 14 February 2019, 2:00 pm

According to the Gospel of John, as Jesus approached the tomb of Lazarus, he began to weep.
This gives us a hint that there is an important emotional dimension to the life of faith as witnessed in the New Testament.
The aim of this course is to open up this new area of research by giving attention to the emotional impact of early Christian belief and practice. Against the backdrop of the scriptures and the Greco-Roman world, we will look at such emotions as anger, grief, fear, envy, joy, and love. The implications for faith and feeling in Christian life today will also be discussed.
