This day will explore Carmelite Spirituality
It will be focusing on the spiritualities of Teresa if Avila and John of the Cross and bringing them into dialogue with the life and work of Edith Stein, a 20th Century Discalced Carmelite nun.
Originating on Mount Carmel in the high Middle Ages, the Carmelite order has grown to extend to all corners of the world. In our day together we shall explore several facets of this extraordinary spirituality beginning with the Desert Fathers who inhabited the original land of Carmel. We shall encompass the great medieval masters, Ss John of the Cross and Teresa of Avila, before ending with their 20th Century successor, Teresia Benedicta a Cruce (Edith Stein) whose extraordinary life ended with martyrdom in the Nazi death camp of Auschwitz. No prior knowledge is required.
