Children in Liturgy
- Course Dates: Fri 10 February 2017, 10:00 am to 4:00 pm

The American Episcopalian Louis Weil writes that the worship of the Church is the action of all its baptised members, including children who are ‘liturgical participants even in infancy’.
Moreover, children’s experience within the worshipping community, and the liturgical worship they encounter, forms them as Christians.
Building on these two insights the course will address a significant yet often perplexing topic in contemporary church life. The historical role of children in worship will be reviewed and the relatively recent experience of admitting Children to Holy Communion within the Church of England provides a marker in the developing understanding of children’s role in worship.
Understandings of ritual provide the foundations for exploring how we might structure and create liturgies which are formational for adults and children worshipping together.
There will be the opportunity to look at examples of liturgical resources that point to best practice for both children and adults in the worship. Participants will be invited to share their own experiences of children in liturgy.
