Divine Conception: Interpreting the Annunciation in the Modern World
- Course Dates: Thu 25 March, 10:00 am to 1:00 pm

Unlike theologians, who must defend their theories before Church and academic authorities, writers and filmmakers are at liberty to follow their creative notions within the boundaries of censorship.
On the feast of the Annunciation, this short course will focus on the Angel Gabriel’s announcement to Mary (Luke 1:26—38) as depicted in modern literature and film from the silent era through to the present day. It will explore ideas of virginal conception and the representation of Mary in Christian Salvation history as a figure implicated in gender, ecclesiastical and ecumenical politics.
