Foreshadowing the Reformation: Art and Religion in the 15th Century Burgundian Netherlands
- Course Dates: Tue 10 April 2018, 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm

Paintings are the history of ideas in visual form.
This richly illustrated lecture, based upon Christopher Herbert’s book (Routledge, July 2016) looks at the religious and spiritual milieu in which the great 15th century Netherlandish artists, such as Jan van Eyck and Robert Campin, worked.
It will explore the themes found in their remarkable altarpieces and portraits which pre-dated and foreshadowed the Reformation.
