Jan van Eyck: Windows On Another World
- Course Dates: Mon 29 October 2018, 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm

Jan van Eyck was one of the greatest painters of what has been called the Northern Renaissance.
He introduced radically new styles of painting and left his peers astounded by his sheer artistic genius and his innovative treatment of his subject matter. He brought a heightened realism to his paintings and helped to shape the development of painting in Northern Europe for centuries to come.
This lecture looks at some of his most beguiling, challenging and enigmatic paintings, including the Arnolfini Marriage, and the Ghent Altarpiece, and explores them in the turbulent political and cultural context of his time.
