Pastoral Liturgy Day: Finding Our Voice in Advent
- Course Dates: Fri 27 September 2019, 10:00 am to 4:00 pm

The season of Advent is experienced as a paradox.
Its themes of waiting and longing are competing with the powerful commercial pressures that accelerate the arrival of Christmas. Yet it has unparalleled opportunities: it marks the time when many people in our local communities make their annual visit to church.
The day will explore the range of liturgical opportunities for marking the season of Advent. We will consider how the spiritual themes of Advent can connect with our hopes and fears through liturgical and symbolic expression, such as Carol Services in the community or attention to those whose experience of Christmas is of isolation or loss,
How are the traditional themes about heaven and hell, judgement and death appropriate to a world which fills advent with the tinsel and lights of a three-month Christmas? This day will provide some answers.
This day is part of a series of one-day courses designed to be particularly useful for those planning worship, but of wider interest to anyone who is concerned about how the Church celebrates Advent.
