Reading Scripture Together: The Binding of Isaac/Ishmael
- Course Dates: Thu 6 February 2020, 10:00 am to 4:00 pm

This conversational one-day course series will re-read selected sacred texts in detail and consider the ways they have been interpreted, both in the written word and in art, and on their relevance and meaning to us today.
Celebrated during Rosh Hashanah in Judaism, during easter in the Christianity, and for Eid al-Adha in Islam, the binding of Isaac/Ishmael is an important story. During this day, we will re-read the stories in detail and explore the ways the Christian, Jewish, and Muslim traditions have interpreted, understood, and reimagined these texts over the ages.
Portrayed in art, as well as commented upon by scholars and theologians from each of the Abrahamic traditions, the story of the binding of Isaac/Ishmael is rich ground for discussion, exploration, and new discoveries related to our faith and life together.
