The Cost of Being Out and Proud (When You’d Rather Just Stay Quietly In)
- Course Dates: Mon 23 April 2018, 7:15 pm to 9:00 pm
Living out in the public arena can mean that every aspect of your life is open to scrutiny – and that you are at constant risk of being maligned and misunderstood.
Jayne will offer her own personal insights into how she has sought to achieve a public presence and profile in a way that has sought to speak truth, whilst building trust and maintaining her integrity. She will also share her coping mechanisms for dealing with abuse.
Jayne Ozanne is a well-known gay evangelical who works to ensure full inclusion of all LGBTI Christians at every level of the Church. She is Director of the Ozanne Foundation, which works with religious organisations around the world to eliminate discrimination based on sexuality or gender in order to embrace and celebrate the equality and diversity of all. She was a founding member of the Archbishops’ Council for the Church of England (1999-2004) and is now once again a member of General Synod, where she is involved in campaigning for a range of issues – particularly the poor and the marginalised. She is actively engaged through her writings and broadcasts in helping the Church develop and promote a positive Christian ethic towards lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex people. Her personal website is jayneozanne.com.
There is no charge for attending however there will be a retiring collection with proceeds going to the Ozanne Foundation. Please do let us know if you’d like to come: email firstname.lastname@example.org or telephone 01722 424800.
This is a public event associated with the Christian Approaches to Leadership in the Public Square course, run by the Centre for Leadership Learning.
