The First Six Hundred Years: How Christianity Spread Around the Mediterranean
- Course Dates: Thu 17 May 2018, 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm

Within ten years of the crucifixion Christianity had spread from Jerusalem to as far as Rome, and in the following decades to Antioch, Ephesus, Corinth, Cyprus, and Crete. How was this possible?
This lecture will attempt to answer this question, and also track Christianity’s development as it began to embrace the whole of the Mediterranean. We shall drop in to some of the early great Councils of the Church, where doctrine was being decided. We shall visit the third century Desert Fathers and Mothers in Egypt, and we shall discover some of the earliest places of worship from this era.
In the second half of the evening we shall find out what has happened to those Christian communities today.
