The Poet as Prophet: William Blake
- Course Dates: Fri 20 October 2017, 10:00 am to 4:00 pm

The prophetic voice has been heard through poetry for millennia – from ancient Greek oracles to the prophetic books of the Hebrew scriptures and beyond.
The prophet does not only predict the future, but also speaks truth into the present day from the perspective of the outsider.
The Romantic poet, artist and mystic William Blake (1757-1827) is one such prophetic figure. Blake delivered his message through a combination of words and images, poetry and visual art.
This day will outline the relationship between poetry and prophecy, and explore Blake’s prophetic poetry. Blake thought that in the future everyone would be an artist, so this day explores the contribution that we can make as artists, poets and prophets.
We will then explore the mapping images that Blake uses in his prophetic books, where figures surround globes and map-like discs. The day will give participants the opportunity to create their own Blakean spiritual maps.
