About the ‘A certain Slant of light’: the poetry and faith of Emily Dickinson course
‘A certain Slant of light’: the poetry and faith of Emily Dickinson Emily Dickinson (1830-1886) wrote 1,775 untitled short lyrics in her life and fewer than ten of these were published in her lifetime. Her poems can be abstract and intimate, ecstatic and numb, comic and pained, unsettling and energizing. Many of them make reference to God, Christ, faith, and doubt. Mark Oakley will introduce Dickinson and her work, exploring her inner life and belief, and asking how her imaginative engagement with Christianity might help our own understanding.
