About the Fruits of the Spirit: Art from the Heart course
This online talk with the Revd Dr Ayla Lepine (see bio below) will explore Fruits of the Spirit: Art from the Heart, an exhibition inspired by St Paul’s list of the Fruit of the Spirit, including love, joy, peace, and generosity, in Galatians 5.22.
Dr Lepine curated this virtual exhibition of nine paintings from the National Gallery in London paired with nine paintings from collections across the UK to explore these themes central to wellbeing and communal flourishing.
The collections include Canterbury Cathedral, the McManus in Dundee, the Bowes Museum in Barnard Castle, and the Ben Uri Gallery and Foundling Museum in London.
The exhibition is accompanied by a catalogue with over 20 authors including curators and community voices, such as art therapists, people with lived experience of being refugees and asylum seekers, and people seeking climate justice locally and globally. The project also includes a specially commissioned poem by the Jewish poet and editor of Jewish Renaissance Magazine, Aviva Dautch, and artists including Van Eyck, Monet, and Orazio Gentileschi.
