Poverty and the Practice of Justice course
At a time when the gap between rich and poor is growing ever wider and we continue to experience a cost-of-living crisis, in this half-day online course we will grapple with the contours of poverty in the UK today, and consider more deeply our theological and practical responses as Christians.
We will start by exploring the structures and dynamics of injustice that foster poverty, and which can also seep into the ways that we respond to poverty as church communities. We will then turn to explore alternative ways of responding rooted in mutual encounter and spiritual transformation which reveal that our own journey towards deeper relationship with God is intimately tied up with practices of justice-making. The morning will involve engagement with biblical stories—particularly those of Zaccheus and the Syrophoenician Woman—as well as intentional, facilitated conversation in small groups. There will be opportunity to reflect on your own spiritual practices and think through your own local responses.
In partnership with the Trussell Trust.
