About the Reading Scripture Together: The Last Supper and Jewish Seder Tradition course
This in-person day will explore the texts (Matthew 26:17-30; Mark 14:12-26; Luke 22:7-39) related to the Last Supper, or what we now call Maundy Thursday or Holy Thursday in the period of Holy Week in the Christian Tradition.
There is a lot of debate as to whether the Last Supper was a Seder, but the Gospels certainly make a link with the final days of Jesus’ life and Passover.
What all does this Seder tradition entail, and how might we read the Last Supper differently as a result? Our exploration will include not only biblical texts but also the text and rituals of the Jewish seder tradition to better understand what they might have meant to Jesus and his disciples.
