Visiting Scholar
Patrick Moriarty is an Anglican priest in the St Albans Diocese, and was for 10 years the Headteacher of the pluralist Jewish Community Secondary School in North London. This unique combination of roles provided many fascinating opportunities for Jewish-Christian dialogue and insight, explored in his talk for JDOV entitled ‘Are you sure you’re not Jewish?’
As he recovers from the role of Headteacher, he continues to enjoy work in education, leadership and interfaith contexts: he is a consultant for schools in North London, both in and beyond in the Jewish community, a Trustee for a secondary Alternative Provision and for the St Albans Cathedral Education Trust, and Honorary Secretary for the Council of Christians and Jews (CCJ). He also works as a moderator for the Aspen Institute.
At heart Patrick is a theologian and educator, having studied at Oxford and at King’s College London and taught religion, philosophy and ethics for 25 years in North London schools. Alongside his role as associate priest in a parish, he also contributes to BBC Radio 2’s Pause for Thought, writes on Jewish-Christian issues and will shortly begin training as a Spiritual Director and a Church Schools’ Inspector. He is a Director of the Social Enterprise “Herts Community Kitchen” and in 2022 was appointed as a Deputy Lieutenant of Hertfordshire.
