Accessibility

Home Accessibility

Welcome to Sarum College

As a values-driven Christian institution, Sarum College is dedicated to creating a welcoming, inclusive, and accessible environment where all students, guests, and visitors can flourish.

Set within the historic Cathedral Close in Salisbury, our Grade II* listed buildings offer a unique setting for learning, retreat, and hospitality. We are committed to making positive, proactive adjustments under the Equality Act 2010 to ensure that everyone can participate fully in college life.

Physical Access & Campus Facilities

We aim to make our historic campus as navigable and comfortable as possible for visitors with mobility or access requirements.

Getting Here & Parking

  • Blue Badge Parking:  A designated accessible parking bay is available on-site. Please contact us in advance to reserve this space or to discuss vehicle access to the College.
  • Level Entrances: Ramp access is available at the primary entrance to the main building.

Lifts & Mobility

  • Lift Access: Lifts serve all main floors within the primary building, providing access to teaching rooms, common spaces, the chapel, and residential accommodation.
  • Wheelchair Accessibility: Corridors and major communal areas are designed to accommodate wheelchairs.

Residential Accommodation & Facilities

  • Accessible Bedrooms: We offer dedicated ground-floor and lift-accessible bedrooms equipped with supportive fittings (such as handrails) and space for wheelchair turning.  Please note only one of bathrooms has a wet-room and are suitable for wheelchair users.  However, 2 further ones do have accessible bathrooms.
  • Profile Bed Facility: A specialized ground-floor accessible room equipped with an adjustable profile bed is available for guests with specific physical needs.
  • Accessible Bathrooms: Adapted en-suite and public accessible toilets are situated on the ground floor and key accommodation levels.

Academic & Student Support

We strive to ensure that all teaching, learning, and research activities are accessible to every student.

  • Individual Access Plans: If you have a disability, long-term health condition, or specific learning difficulty (e.g., dyslexia), our academic team will work with you to establish tailored learning adjustments.
  • Sarum College Library: Staff are available to assist with fetching books from high shelves, providing alternative formats where possible, and offering study space accommodations.
  • Sensory & Communication Support: Hearing loops are installed in some lecture spaces and meeting rooms. Please notify us if you require specialized assistance or printed materials in alternative formats.

Dietary Requirements & Hospitality

Our catering team takes pride in accommodating diverse dietary needs with care and detail.

  • We routinely cater for vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, dairy-free, nut-free, and medically required diets.
  • Advance Notice: Please let us know of any specific dietary or allergen requirements prior to your arrival so our kitchen team can prepare accordingly.

Website & Digital Accessibility

Sarum College is committed to ensuring our website (www.sarum.ac.uk) is accessible to as many people as possible, regardless of technology or ability.

Standards & Conformance

We aim to align our digital content with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA standards.

Digital Features

  • Text Resizing & Contrast: Our site supports standard browser zoom and contrast adjustments without loss of functionality.
  • Keyboard Navigation: Core pages and navigation menus are designed to be accessible using keyboard-only input.
  • Media: Embedded visual content and video links aim to provide descriptive text alternatives or captions.

Known Limitations & Continuous Improvement

Because our digital platforms evolve regularly, some older downloadable resources (such as legacy PDF documents) may not fully meet modern accessibility standards. We are actively working to update these assets. If you require a document in a different format, please reach out to us.
