When you stay at Sarum College in Salisbury’s Cathedral Close, the magnificent Salisbury Cathedral is just steps away.
Sarum College offers the only guest accommodation within Salisbury’s historic Cathedral Close, which itself is in the centre of a beautiful medieval city.
Situated in Grade I-Listed buildings, the oldest part of the college dates from 1677 and is attributed to Sir Christopher Wren. By day, Sarum is a working further education college and conference venue. Many students choose to stay at Sarum while attending their courses but our rooms and hospitality are open to all.
Forty guest bedrooms are ensuite, many are newly refurbished. The Wren bedrooms at the front of the College have uninterrupted views of the Cathedral, several others have lovely views overlooking the rooftops of the Close and spire. Rooms are single, double and twin; all have tea and coffee-making facilities. There is Wifi throughout the building for guests to use free of charge. There are no televisions in bedrooms however guests may use the one in the Wilson Room.
For the traveler on a budget there are also a limited number of no-frills standard rooms with shared facilities.
The lift gives access to all the floors, and there is a common room with easy chairs and licensed bar for guest use.
The Cathedral Close is in central Salisbury, a five-minute walk from the High Street with shops, cafes and a twice-weekly market. In addition to the College’s own art programme, there are excellent cultural venues nearby, including the Salisbury Playhouse, City Hall, Odeon cinema, as well as award-winning museums, Arundells (the home of Sir Edward Heath) and Mompesson House, a fine National Trust property. The World Heritage Site of Stonehenge is a short bus journey away.
There are dozens of buzzing restaurants, pubs and bars just a few minutes walk away. Sarum College guests can borrow a Close gate key to come and go as they please. The Cathedral Close gates are locked from 10:30pm (it was 7pm in the 15th century!).
But when you re-enter the Close and the door of no. 19 shuts behind you, the peace and beauty of the Cathedral and surrounding Close is all yours.

“Everything about the College is excellent – the warm hospitality of the staff, the excellent room I have had both times, the facilities, the ambiance everything. I recommend it to people whenever I can.”

“By far the best place to stay in Salisbury – we walked past several town centre hotels and really appreciated reaching the quiet of the cathedral close.”
TripAdvisor review, October 2012
“… a jolly B&B…if you rise early, you get the cathedral grounds to yourself…”
“This is my second stay at Sarum College and I could not recommend it highly enough as a very special, warm, welcoming, peaceful and nurturing place to stay: almost a mini-retreat, and in one of the most beautiful places in the world, in the Cathedral Close! Thank you!”
