Bio:
Rob James is the Principal of Sarum College. He has been a parish priest and a cathedral Canon Chancellor. He has also taught in both the UK and Canada. Prior to being a Vicar, Rob worked for the UK government as a Crown Servant, and had a time as a ‘self-supporting minister’.
As an undergraduate, Rob studied Theology and Religious Studies at the University of Kent. He holds master’s degrees in various aspects of Theology from SOAS, Cambridge, and Nottingham, and a PhD from SOAS. He also holds an MLitt in Terrorism Studies from St. Andrews.
Rob has research interests in New Testament Studies and in modern Theology, particularly thinking about Pastoral Theology and the interface between Theology and other disciplines such as Science or Philosophy. Rob joined Sarum as Principal in August 2026, and says that he is pleased to have joined a college that is positive, forward looking, and in great shape.
