Sarum College is pleased to welcome Alison Webster to the role of Exploring Theology Programme Leader.
Alison is a freelance practical and mission theologian who offers spiritual accompaniment, and is a Visiting Scholar at Sarum College.
The Exploring Theology programme has gone from strength to strength since its 2019 launch. The programme has remained online since the pandemic as this format enables wider participation in the course throughout the UK and beyond. Terms typically have between 30 and 60 participants, with about 15 percent doing essays to further enrich their learning. The course appeals to those who want to strengthen their faith through knowledge and serves for some as a stepping stone to ministry roles.
As programme leader, Alison hosts the weekly sessions and coordinates the learning programme for each term.
‘Alison is a talented educator with a deep heart for helping people put their faith and biblical literacy into practice in their communities and beyond,’ says Dr Jayme Reaves, Director of Academic Development at Sarum College. ‘I’m so happy to have her on board to further strengthen this thriving programme.’
‘I am pleased to be taking on this role,’ Alison says. ‘I love the fact that the Exploring Theology course supports students to think, speak and act with greater biblical literacy and theological confidence. I also value the way that it takes seriously what students already know. Our current context needs critical and generative theological thinking like never before.’
‘I am delighted that Alison Webster is joining the academic faculty at Sarum to oversee this key part of our learning offer,’ says The Revd Canon Professor James Woodward, Principal of Sarum College. ‘Alison has an established reputation as a skilful and grounded teacher here at Sarum. She is a creative, practical theologian who is committed to putting embodied theology to work in thought and action. We look forward to working with her and learning from her.’
