Reflection
The bright May days have brought wonderful light– especially at night and here is a moment – the sun setting taken just after 9 o’clock. The silence of the moment broken only by the distant noise of two football players developing the skill in competition!
A brisk walk helps shed some of the preoccupations and anxieties of today. In the rhythms of the day and night the stillness of this moment reminds us that we must hold on to the still centre in our personal, parochial and political life– all of which are mixed and too often complicated. Creation unites us in a common cause. The sunset was a pointer to life eternal and its bridge between us in life temporal.
For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. Colossians 1:16

Prayer
God of Creation and Lord of Life
God of creation and Lord of life, you entrusted us to care for our environment, but in many parts of the world we have failed. Help us to realise how fragile and unstable our surroundings are, because we are not looking after creation. We need to be true stewards and to understand how the most insignificant little flowers, and the tiniest insects, each creature and individual people are all part of a wondrous whole.
Amen
Action
Look for signs of eternity in creation. Search out some silence and practice it for a few minutes during the day. Give thanks for beauty.
