This teaching day explores four New Testament writings shaped by pressure, conflict, and contested faith. Hebrews, James, Jude and 2 Peter address communities facing weariness, distortion of belief, and ethical compromise, offering robust theological resources for perseverance. Together they present faith as resilient, embodied, and resistant to both despair and domination. Through close reading and theological reflection, the day invites participants to hear these texts as voices of encouragement, warning, and hope for communities seeking faithful discipleship today.

Simon Woodman is a dynamic and innovative Baptist minister and academic with strong strategic leadership experience. Committed to excellence in education, empowering others, and widening inclusion. Known for collaborative engagement, boundary-pushing thinking, and championing radical values to bring about lasting transformation in church, academy, and public life. Simon is the Minister of Bloomsbury Central Baptist Church, Baptist Chaplain at King’s College London, and a trained Community Organiser.

In his research as a student on the MA in Theology, Imagination and Culture, Peter Butchers explored platonic philosophy, digital theology and eschatology, and pastoral practice around death and dying.

Rewarding Sabbatical Stay

The Revd Greg Syler, is Rector of Ascension & St. George’s, Resurrection Parish in the Episcopal Diocese of Washington, DC USA, spent part of his ministry sabbatical at Sarum College in spring 2022.
