Missiology 101: Reimagining Christian Mission Today course
Mission is a troublesome and contested term these days in the Christian Church and requires some reimagining. This course begins by watching a video (beforehand, at your leisure) which explains developments in contemporary thinking about mission since the middle of the Twentieth Century, especially how it begins and ends in God. Thus, we will introduce the important theological concept of the “missio Dei” or the mission of God, understand how there is an ecumenical consensus around this idea and think about the implications of it for the Church and our practice. We will also explore the content of contemporary mission and how we can faithfully participate in God’s mission in a post-colonial world.
The session itself will be a discussion of the ideas in the video with questions generated by both the participants and the tutor.
If you struggle with how mission is often portrayed, are put off by exhortations to do more in the name of God or are simply curious about how we might reimagine mission today you are very welcome
