Praying the Psalms of the Passion: Quiet Time in Holy Week course
The poetry of the psalms – familiar to Jesus from his childhood – surrounds the climactic events of Holy Week. The Last Supper concludes with the singing of a psalm; in his agony Jesus speaks words of psalmody from the cross. These psalms of the Passion constitute the devotional backdrop to the drama of the world’s redemption.
In this Quiet Morning for Holy Week a series of short addresses will be offered, pointing to rich seams for contemplation and proclamation in the days ahead. These will be interspersed with quiet, with a chance to walk in the Cathedral Close, and with opportunities to pray alone and together.
Nicholas Papadopulos has been Dean of Salisbury since September 2018. As well as chairing the Cathedral’s governing body – the Chapter – he has overall responsibility for its spiritual life. He is the author of The Infernal Word – Notes from a Rebel Angel (Canterbury Press, 2023) and Twelve Joys of Christmas (CHP 2025).
