Worshipping through ‘Kingdomtide’, Advent and Christmas course
In this day course we will re-visit and explore the texture, rhythms and high points of the late autumn and winter period of the Church’s year. Starting at the beginning of November with All Saints’ Day, exploring those last few weeks of the year often referred to as ‘the Kingdom Season’, and then how that connects to Advent and Christmas, we will unfold the liturgical possibilities, theological themes, opportunities and challenges of this rich time of year. We will be looking particularly at the liturgies of the Church of England, but much of the discussion will be applicable more widely than that as the shape of this time of year is largely ecumenical.
The course will include input from Tom together with conversation, questions and sharing of best practice. This course will be of particular interest to leaders and planners of worship, both ordained and lay, but anyone who prays and worships through this special time of the year and is interested in the traditions and liturgical shape of the pattern of worship we have inherited will hopefully find nourishment.
Canon Dr Tom Clammer OC was ordained in 2005 and has served in suburban, rural and cathedral contexts before retiring from stipendiary ministry in 2019 due to the onset of ill-health. He is now a freelance spiritual director, theological educator, and a professed brother and novice master of the Anglican Order of Cistercians. He lectures regularly at Sarum College and at Ripon College, Cuddesdon, particularly in the areas of worship, liturgy and sacramental theology.
