This four-part series is about Christian spirituality for Advent in the context of the climate and environmental crises.

It is based around the first verse of the hymn ‘Sleepers Wake’ using the four lines to give a framework for each week of Advent. The resources are offered by Home Groups, a website with resources and advice to run a church home group online or in person.

Sleepers Wake is the title of the book by former Bishop of Salisbury Nicholas Holtam. The Archbishop of York’s Advent Book for 2022, it draws on Bishop Nicholas’s experience as former Church of England lead Bishop for the environment and urges spiritual and cultural transformation to help preserve our world for future generations.

The Writing is on the Wall – Session One
In this session, looking at week one of Advent, we will use the first line of the hymn Sleepers Wake to discuss the state of climate change today. Features an interview with Dr Ruth Valerio.
Finding Our Place – Session Two
In this session, looking at week two of Advent, we will use the second line of the hymn Sleepers Wake to discuss the state of climate change today. Features an interview with The Archbishop of York, Stephen Cottrell.
Being Human – Session Three
In this session, looking at week three of Advent, we will use the third line of the hymn Sleepers Wake to discuss the state of climate change today. Features an interview with Professor Julian Allwood.
What Can I Bring Him? – Session Four
In this session, looking at week four of Advent, we will use the fourth line of the hymn Sleepers Wake to discuss the state of climate change today. Features an interview with Loretta Minghella OBE.
