Ink Drawings and Sketches by Ben Dearnley

Ben Dearnley, a contemporary British sculptor based in Bath is exhibiting a selection of ink drawings and sketches in Sarum College this summer.
The original ink drawings are on Indian handmade Khadi paper and drawn freehand with a Japanese brush. The drawings represent some of the athletes with whom Ben worked to create his Avenue of Champions in Salisbury Cathedral’s West Cloister.
The artwork is a celebration of the human figure in the spirit of the Olympics. Olympians featured in the exhibition include Mark Foster, Christine Ohuruogh and Victoria Pendleton, among others. Some of the drawings are signed by the athletes themselves, and all are for sale, with prices ranging from £100 to £300.
Ben Dearnley has a close connection with Salisbury’s Cathedral Close, having been born here and his late father, Christopher Dearnley was Director of Music at the Cathedral. He was also an active member of the Royal School of Church Music, which is now based here at Sarum College. A bust of Christopher Dearnley made by Ben will be on display as part of the exhibition.
The exhibition is free and open to the public daily until 15 September 2012. Open times are Monday to Saturday 9am to 5pm, Sundays 10am to 2pm.
