Bath and Wells is the latest diocese to work in partnership with Sarum College to supplement its lifelong learning offer for those in ministry roles.
“The purpose of Continuing Ministerial Development (CMD) is to strengthen and deepen a lifelong learning culture within each diocese,” according to the Church of England statement of expectations. “Good practice in both provision and participation are ultimately evidenced in spiritual and numerical growth with the Church’s ministers more fully engaged in God’s mission themselves, in the variety of roles they have been licensed to as public representative ministers, and better able to stimulate and enable the whole Church to respond to its call.”
The Bath and Wells partnership begins this autumn with a selection of courses on themes including benefice ministry, prayer, inclusive worship and biblical studies. Eligible members of the diocese — licensed clergy, Readers and commended lay ministers — have access to free places on the chosen courses.
Supporting CMD is a development of our long and much-valued partnership with The Diocese of Bath and Wells. We have supported many women and men in their formation for lay and ordained ministry,” says Sarum College Principal James Woodward. “We welcome this opportunity to resource, encourage, and deepen our collaboration in the enabling of theology and learning to be put to work for the mission of the Church under the leadership of Anna Bishop, Programme Leader for the Short Course Programme.
