Sarum College is pleased to announce the appointment of The Rt Revd Dr Alastair Redfern as Chair of Sarum College Trustees.
The former Bishop of Derby has expertise in the fields of theology, church history, social justice, clergy training, leadership and spirituality. He is an author of 12 books.
‘I’m delighted to be joining the team at Sarum College,’ said Dr Redfern. ‘The College makes an imaginative and timely offer for learning, community building and appropriate expressions for journeying in faith. I am impressed by the range of expertise and stakeholders, as well as the enormous contemporary relevance of the College’s work.’
‘Dr Redfern brings to Sarum experience and expertise in theological learning that shapes people’s lives, and through them, those of the wider community,’ says The Revd Canon Professor James Woodward, Principal of Sarum College.
‘A generative thinker, Dr Redfern has practical wisdom from his long ministry in theological education, ministerial development, Cathedral life and as a Diocesan Bishop. He has also made a distinctive contribution to international social justice through his work on modern slavery.
‘We look forward to welcoming him into the Sarum community and working with him in his capacity as our new Chair of Trustees.’
‘People crave to fill the spiritual space in their lives; Sarum College is a special place that aspires to fill that space,’ says Stephen Lamdin, the outgoing Chair of Trustees. ‘It’s been a privilege to chair Sarum for the last three years. I know that under the outstanding leadership of Professor Woodward and the chairmanship of Alastair Redfern, Sarum will go from strength to strength.’
Dr Redfern begins his role as Sarum College Chair of Trustees in January 2019.
so pleased to see the doctor right revd Alastair Redfern being part of Sarum college it was because of his teaching and encouragement that I became a reader or now a LLM in the Bristol diocese in 1998 and have now transferred to Salisbury.
Without his encouragement and guidance I would never have dreamed of being up the front leading and preaching.
We both share the gospel of social justice together, that all are included, and have found his teaching so inspirational
If it is possible for Alastair to get in touch I would really appreciate it
I have just finished a Matthew preaching day with Paul Burden and it was excellent so informative easy to follow and so many new ideas for preaching after 20 years has given me and the class new ideas.
I hope to do some more courses at Sarum
with every blessing
