Disability, Technology and Human Flourishing

Home News Disability, Technology and Human Flourishing

Dr Eleanor McLaughlin, Programme Leader in Theology, Imagination and Culture at Sarum College, will contribute to a series presented by Regent College in Vancouver entitled, Human Flourishing in a Technological Age. This online series explores key aspects of what it means to be human in a technological age: personhood, embodied cognition, leisure, transhumanism and more.

In her 12 March 2021 lecture, ‘Disability, Technology and Human Flourishing,’ Dr McLaughlin will discuss the difference between the human experience of ontological limitedness and the encounter with specific limits that prevent humans from flourishing. Drawing on the work of Dietrich Bonhoeffer and disability theologian Deborah Creamer, McLaughlin argues that this difference plays an essential part when assessing the role of technology for human flourishing, particularly in the lives of people with disabilities.

This free online series runs from 29 January to 16 April 2021. Visit the Human Flourishing in a Technological Age website for details and to register.

The lecture is free and a recording will be accessible after the event.
