Last weekend was the final residential for our leaving ordination and Reader LLM candidates training at the Sarum Centre for Formation in Ministry.
Our topic was Preparing for Public Ministry, with staff and guest speakers leading sessions. We heard from Bishop Andrew the Bishop of Ramsbury, telling of his own journey in ministry and what students might expect from their bishop.
Four of last year’s leavers gave fascinating and encouraging insights into the opportunities, challenges and joys they have found during their year of ordained and lay ministries. The day was capped by a celebratory dinner with champagne generously donated by one of the students.
On Sunday each leaver gave a reflection on their time at Sarum with a bible verse to encourage their colleagues — touching, uplifting and entertaining in equal measure! Sarum College Principal James Woodward presided at a final eucharist in the College’s Butterfield Chapel, with a commissioning for the 28 leavers as they go out to their ordinations and Reader/LLM licensings in six dioceses.
We will miss them and their contribution to the life of the College and look forward to hearing what God will do with them and through them in their future ministries.
