Reading Scripture Together: Covenant course
The concept of covenant (brit in Hebrew) figures in both Jewish and Christian theology. In this study day, we will look at four different “covenants” in the Hebrew Bible and New Testament, including:
1) The universal covenant with Noah,
2) The “covenant between the pieces” of Abraham,
3) The Covenant with the Israelites at Sinai,
4) and the ‘new covenant’ discussed in Jeremiah and New Testament.
We will explore the concept of a “covenant ceremony” from the Hebrew Bible, and discuss how Christians and Jews can maintain their own understandings of covenant while respecting that their dialogue partner holds a different interpretation.

This series of conversational one-day courses explores selected sacred texts in detail to consider the ways they have been interpreted, both in the written word and in art, and on their relevance and meaning to us today.
