Sarum College is delighted to celebrate one of our Visiting Scholars, The Ven Dr Rachel Mann, who has had an exciting summer.
Rachel is highly esteemed as an author and radio commentator as well as serving clergy and often teaches at Sarum College. Appointed an Honorary Canon of Manchester Cathedral in 2017, she is Visiting Teaching Fellow in the Manchester Writing School and a member of the Church of England’s theological advisory board, the Faith and Order Commission.
Her eventful summer began in June when she was appointed the Archdeacon of Bolton and Salford within the Diocese of Manchester. Her calling to serve God and the Anglican communion has been clearly evident throughout her career and Sarum is delighted at the appointment and the further work this will enable.
In July, Rachel was also given the Lancaster University Outstanding Alumni Award at their recent graduation ceremony. Rachel studied at Lancaster University as an undergraduate and postgraduate student in philosophy, and then later served as a teaching fellow in the Philosophy Department as well.
Rachel is the first trans person to be named an Archdeacon in the Church of England and has shown tireless dedication to LGBT+ inclusion.
Congratulations, Rachel!
