Reflection
Sometimes a change of perspective can be really useful. The difficult things in life are still difficult, and need attending to, but they do not form the whole picture.
A friend of mine in East London, who has rediscovered the joy of cycle rides from his own front door, remarked, “Before the current crisis, I did not realise there was so much green beauty so close to me, and so surrounded by London.”
The photograph is of Salisbury, as viewed from Old Sarum. The city rests within the shelter of the hills. Within the city, the cathedral rests within the walls of the close. And within the cathedral, … &c.
All are sustained by God, Who is the ground of being, and the ground of our praying.
As the mountains surround Jerusalem, so the Lord surrounds His people, now and for ever. Psalm 125:2
Out of love, God wraps us up snug, and winds about us like a scarf. God holds us, embraces us, wholly encloses us. God hangs around us in tender affection, so we’re never separated.
(Julian of Norwich, ‘A Revelation of Love’ Chapter 5)

Prayer
God, of your goodness
give me Yourself!
For you are enough to me, and I cannot ask for anything less without disrespecting You.
And if I do ask for anything less, I am always left wanting. Only in You do I have all.
Amen
Action
If you are on a familiar journey, try taking a different route? Even if it’s as simple as walking down a street on the other side from usual. It can be surprisingly refreshing to see different things – or the same things as before, but from a different angle.
