Sarum College has appointed The Revd Maggie Metcalfe as Chaplain in the Centre for Formation in Ministry. Following a career as a midwife and health visitor, Maggie trained at Sarum College and was ordained in 2021 in Salisbury Cathedral.
“The role of Chaplain within in the Centre for Formation in Ministry is vitally important in our care and support of the 73 women and men currently training for ordained and lay ministry with us,” says The Revd Paul Burden, Dean of Ministry. “The Chaplain is present at residential weekends and available at other times for students who want to have a confidential talk about any aspect of their training.
“We are pleased to welcome Maggie as Chaplain from January 2025. She brings much pastoral experience and, having trained for ordination at Sarum, she knows the delights and challenges of being a student first-hand.”
“Maggie brings to this work and ministry experience, wisdom and a great deal of grounded common sense. She understands the demands of formation and the realities of parish ministry,” says The Revd Canon Professor James Woodward, Sarum College Principal. “We look forward to working with her in the team.”
“I am delighted to be returning to Sarum College in this different guise, and look forward to contributing to, and being part of, the rich variety of all that the College of Formation and Ministry offers,” she says.
Maggie will be in post on 2 January 2025. She succeeds The Revd Kim Stephens, who is retiring at the end of the year.
