The librarian and precentor of Salisbury Cathedral are the newest additions to Sarum College’s body of visiting scholars who contribute teaching, supervision and scholarship to the college’s academic community.
Dr Anne Dutton joined Salisbury Cathedral in 2017 and became Cathedral Librarian in 2022. Her doctoral research focused on women’s use of devotional literature in late medieval England. She is particularly interested in the history of the book, especially medieval manuscripts, incunabula (books printed before 1501), provenance, and bookbindings.
The Revd Canon Anna Macham is Canon Precentor of Salisbury Cathedral, where she is responsible for the Cathedral’s Liturgy and Music. Her background includes research on the music and theology of twentieth century choral composers including Igor Stravinsky, Benjamin Britten, James Macmillan and Arvo Pärt. More recently she has researched the history of women in sacred music and last year she led a Sarum course on the subject.
“On behalf of the College, I am delighted to welcome Anne and Anna to the academic faculty as Visiting Scholars,” said James Woodward, Sarum College Principal. “We look forward to their contribution to our learning programmes and strengthening our partnership with the Cathedral.”
