Intergenerational Ministry (for cynics) course
Intergenerational Ministry is not a different name for an all-age service: it is a different way of being church, and of enabling mission and ministry.
This is not automatically about the worship service on Sunday mornings (in fact this is probably not the best place to start): it is about the learning, practice and insight that can benefit any church whatever the activities they are engaged in.
Intergenerational Ministry is not just an approach about or for children, it is for all who gather; it is about inclusion, involvement and participation.
This holistic approach to community-building and spiritual growth recognises the richness and diversity of each generations’ gifts, and what can emerge when we listen to each other, and work together.
During this half-day online course, you will gain insights into the world of children and young people, discover how inclusion and involvement can aid spiritual growth, and see how the principles could help your church to better welcome and involve everyone. We will explore the myths, dig into the why, and wrestle with the how.
Claire Wren (writing in Pathways Magazine) observes that in her experience of this approach to intergenerational ministry: ‘Visitors don’t have pressure put upon them to part with their children, and our community has many families who are looking for things to do together at the weekend.’ She also notes that they don’t need a team of Children’s Ministers – and that they ‘have a high degree of participation – everyone is welcome.’
