‘Love’s mysteries in souls’: The poems and faith of John Donne course
This is a day in which we will explore the faith of John Donne through his poetry.
We will look at various poems, and passages from his sermons, to examine his beliefs, contradictions, and fears.
We will learn about his life and how this connects to his literary work. We will also explore whether there is a real distinction to be made between the young, audacious ‘Jack’ Donne, and the more mature and scholarly ‘Dr’ Donne.
We will ask how his work resonates in us today and what we might learn about Christian faith from a closer reading of his poems.
