September 2024
As a returning ordinand, I eagerly anticipated this year’s Summer School, especially after the wonderful experience of formation with my fellow first-years last year. Ministry Summer School 2024 certainly did not disappoint!
As Summer School approached I felt a childlike excitement, knowing I was heading to Sarum to learn, encounter God, reunite with old friends, make new ones, and enjoy the stunning surroundings of Cathedral Close whilst being fuelled by delicious food from the refectory.
Living in community for a week with fellow ordinands allows us to learn from one another as we worship, listen, eat and relax together. There is something truly formational about this one immersive week. This year, I particularly appreciated the daily journaling and reflection time. Allowing us time to reflect more deeply and listen to what God wanted us to hear between the more structured sessions.
Summer School gathers ordinands from all years, providing valuable time in our formation groups to bond and grow together.
The daily services and communal meals help create an true sense of community. 2024 Ministry Summer School theme was “The stories we tell” and the storytelling stretched far out of the sessions and workshops into the refectory, common room and bar.
I’m fortunate to be studying on a three-year pathway, which means I get to experience it all again next year!
Anne-Marie Tuck is a second-year ordinand from Bristol Diocese.
