A video of Dr Eleanor McLaughlin’s 12 March 2021 lecture is available free of charge via this link: Disability, Technology and Human Flourishing,’
In this lecture, Dr McLaughlin discusses the difference between the human experience of ontological limitedness and the encounter with specific limits that prevent humans from flourishing.
Drawing on the work of Dietrich Bonhoeffer and disability theologian Deborah Creamer (author of the 2008 book: Disability and Christian Theology: Embodied Limits and Constructive Possibilities) McLaughlin argues that this difference plays an essential part when assessing the role of technology for human flourishing, particularly in the lives of people with disabilities.
Dr McLaughlin is Programme Leader, Programmes in Theology, Imagination and Culture
